District of Columbia
All active registered voters will be sent a Mail-In-Ballot (absentee ballot) at their registered address beginning the first week in October.
Registration deadlines:
- Online: Oct. 13
- By mail: Postmarked by Oct. 13
- In-person: Nov. 3
Mail-in/absentee ballot deadlines:
- Request: Oct. 27
- Return by Mail: Postmarked by Nov. 3
- Return in person: Nov. 3 by 8 pm
Early voting:
- Oct. 27 to Nov. 2
Maryland
To vote by mail, you must request a Mail-in Ballot (absentee ballot) from the State Board of Elections or from your local board. Your request for a mail-in ballot must be received by Oct. 20. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked or placed in a designated drop box by 8 pm on Nov. 3.

Virginia
To request an absentee ballot, you may download and complete it from the Virginia Department of Elections website and drop it off at any drop-off location in your county or city. There is a drop-off location at your local registrar’s office at every voter satellite office in your county or city, and on Election Day at each polling place in your county or city. If you drop off your absentee ballot, it must be returned in the sealed envelopes that are provided.
