MEMBER SPOTLIGHT – Meet Our Candidates

As you may know, this is an election year to determine the 2019 – 2021 NAHSE-WMAC Officers of our esteemed organization. The Nomination Committee has completed the nominations process and the following candidates have been approved by the Executive Committee to be placed on the ballot:

Dear NAHSE Washington Metro Area Chapter:

It is with great pleasure that I submit my nomination to serve as the president-elect of the NAHSE Washington Metro Area Chapter (WMAC). I have been an active member of NAHSE since 2014 and I would be truly honored to serve a second term on the executive board of the NAHSE-WMAC. 

I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. I continued my educational career at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where I received a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. Upon relocating to the Washington DC area, I was employed as the lead communications consultant with AmeriHealth Caritas. In 2017, I was promoted to Sr. Quality Performance Associate with AmeriHealth Caritas DC. In this role, I am responsible for leading NCQA accreditation activities, serving as the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Program Manager, leading select health plan quality assurance and improvement projects based on plan performance metrics, and spearheading initiatives that are geared towards increasing patients’ access to care and improving clinical quality metrics.

Most recently, I served as the Secretary (1/2 term), Treasurer (1/2 term), and as one of the co-chairs of the Young Executive Committee. During my tenure in the past administration, I spearheaded the development of the chapter’s focus on increasing the role of early careerists in the chapter by hosting the first-ever Young Professional Empowerment Brunch and various networking events across the city. I was also instrumental in the chapter winning the Percy Allen, II Chapter of the Year award during the 34th Annual Educational Conference in Washington, DC. Previous to my involvement on the executive board, I served as a member of the Public Policy and Advocacy committee where I assisted with the planning of the Healthcare Leaders Reception and Hill Day.

As president-elect, I would have one goal: continue the great work this chapter is known for across the Washington Metropolitan area. A few areas I will ensure WMAC addresses during this administration are as follows:

• Ensure ACHE credits are available for all educational programs.
• Seek to develop mutually beneficial relationships with other DMV organizations in the form of sponsorships and partnerships to ensure we continue to be a financially-sound, innovative, and inclusive chapter.
• Solidify NAHSE-WMAC’s role as the premier organization for black and other minority healthcare professionals in the DMV through the development of on-trend events and programs.
• Ensure we are proving value to financial members of the chapter with exclusive member’s only programming.

I have wholeheartedly enjoyed my involvement in the NAHSE-WMAC and would like the opportunity to continue my leadership with the executive board. NAHSE has been a huge part of my personal and professional growth as an early careerist. The professional connections, growth opportunities, and transferable skills I have gained as an active member of this organization have been invaluable. Thus, serving as the president-elect of NAHSE-WMAC will afford me the opportunity to influence healthcare professionals to not only join the organization but also become an active member of our professional community.

To NAHSE-WMAC Members,

I hereby submit my interest for the President-Elect position with The National Association of Health Services Executive Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter. I have been a part of NAHSE and the local chapter for six years. During my tenure, I have held many leadership roles to include Membership chair, Communications Director, and Treasurer. Key accomplishments include: created and maintained FaceBook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms to increase communications, developed “Membership Spotlight” on the current website to highlight the achievements of current members, and worked with the fundraising committee to create levels of sponsorship.

I have been in healthcare for over 20 years, with most of my career in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Having served in various capacities within NAHSE, I consider myself as an excellent candidate for President-Elect. This role will allow me to have a more significant impact on the organization and support the goals and objectives of the incoming President and chapter.

 I am excited to accept the nomination to run for Treasurer of NAHSE-WMAC.  I have been a member of NAHSE since the year of 2017 and have been impressed with the numerous accomplishments of our dedicated leadership. I am particularly motivated to work on supporting our efforts for continued funding of awards and future collaborations with corporations as well as providing funds to further the cause in upholding NAHSE’s commitment to ensure greater participation of minority groups in the healthcare industry. 

With over (15) years of healthcare experience I possess a combination of skills and experiences that would be most valuable to the position. I served in a dual role as a Secretary – Treasurer for a larger organization of over (200) members. Working with the American Society of Cytotechnology (ASCT) had its challenges, however, provided me the opportunity to manage an annual operating budget of over $17,000. I currently serve, in a volunteer role, as the Program Evaluation Administrator for the Urban League. In this role, I assist in grant writing and facilitate the organization’s awarded funds. In addition, I have delivered exceptional results in my position as an Operations Manager of a Surgery department in cost savings and revenue cycle management.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve as Treasurer in new ways by first, utilizing my background in grant writing to streamline proposal processes for future suggestions on funding for the organization. Second, develop procedures and standardized criteria for decision making of any new innovative awards for our members. Lastly, consider collaborations and developing partnerships with disciplines that we have not generally considered working with in the past.

Working with organizations’ financial affairs, I know what it takes to keep a business operational and being transparent. The opportunity to be more involved with WMAC by following Phylicia Cross as Treasurer, with the solid budget she leaves behind, would be an honor.
